42Title:  Lettres de Monsieur le marquis de Montcalm, gouverneur-general en Canada: a messieurs de Berryer & de La Molâe, ecrites dans les annâees 1757, 1758, & 1759. Avec une version angloise
Creator:  Roubaud, Pierre Joseph Antoine, b. 1724
 Publication:  J. Almon, Londres,1777.
Notes:  French and English on opposite pages, numbered in duplicate. Added t.p. in English. Of the three letters in this pamphlet, purporting to be written by Moncalm, the first, addressed to "Mons. de Berryer, ministre de la marine, &c", and dated "Montreal, ce 4 avril, 1757", includes a letter addressed to Montcalm, signed S.J. and dated "Boston, Jan. 4, 1757". The second letter to de Berryer is dated "Montreal 1 oct. 1758". The third and last letter, addressed to "Mons. de Molâe, premier president au Parlement de Paris", is dated "Du camp devant Quebec, 24 d'aoãut, 1759". The letters, which contain a prophecy of the revolt of the English colonies, are now generally regarded as forgeries and are attributed by some authorities to Rouband, a Jesuit missionary in Canada, who entered the English service after the fall of Quebec. cf. Winsor, Narr. & crit. hist., v. 5, p. 606, and references there given. cf. also, Backer-Sommervogel, Bibl. de la Compagnie de Jâesus, t. 7, under Roubaud.
